The Bat is an e-mail application that supports multiple POP3 accounts, true multithreading, MIME and UUencode standards, multimedia, message templates, minimization to the system tray, message notification, APOP authorization, and PGP. You also will find a fast and comfortable message editor with text highlighting, as well as a mail dispatcher for managing messages on servers. English, Russian, German, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Italian, Lithuanian, and Romanian interfaces are built in, as is a multilingual spelling checker. The application's other features include automatic dial-up networking (configurable for multiple accounts) and the option to include a photo with each address-book entry. There also are enhancements, such as message coloring, flagging, advanced filtering, speed improvements, and virus protection.

Совместно с Дизайн-бюро Артема Горбунова был создан новейший дизайн The Bat!, призванный облегчить работу с новыми версиями программы. Новый дизайн прослеживается буквально во всем, начиная от главного окна и заканчивая самыми мелкими диалоговыми окнами. Ну а для самых преданных пользователей The Bat! мы сохранили классическую версию интерфейса программы.

Значительно упрощен процесс работы с макросами. The Bat! всегда славился своей поддержкой огромного количества макросов, которые можно было использовать для создания шаблонов сообщений и правил на все случаи жизни. Однако часто этой возможностью пренебрегали. В The Bat! 4.0 работа с макросами стала доступной каждому. Теперь каждая группа макросов имеет собственный цвет, сам макрос отображается на удобном пользователю языке, а не на языке макросов (например, «Имя адресата» вместо «%TOFName»). The Bat! 4.1: в новый год – с новой версией!

В преддверии Нового Года RITLabs сообщает о выходе новой версии программы The Bat! за номером 4.1. В The Bat! 4.1 пользователей ждут новые полезные возможности, а также улучшения функций, которые уже стали привычными.

Главным функциональным нововведением The Bat! 4.1 стали HTML-шаблоны. В новой версии процесс создания HTML-сообщений существенно упрощен благодаря тому, что шаблоны могут содержать не только текст, но и атрибуты форматирования, картинки, фоновые изображения-подкладки, таблицы и любые другие элементы HTML-писем.

Многим пользователям по долгу службы необходимо использовать в каждом сообщении корпоративный стиль с использованием символики компании. С новой функцией это проще простого. HTML-шаблон вставляет графические элементы (заголовок, подпись) – и пользователю остается только ввести текст в нужном месте. Другой пример использования этой функции – пересылка бухгалтерской информации. В шаблон вводится необходимая "шапка" документа, таблица для ввода данных, подпись – и перед пользователем предстает удобная форма для презентации данных. Сама таблица с данными может быть импортирована в удобном виде из внешнего приложения. Вот лишь немногие из возможных областей применения HTML-шаблонов.

Продолжим тему шаблонов. Начиная с версии 4.0, The Bat! стал использовать кодировку Unicode в сообщениях. В версии 4.1 Unicode появился и в шаблонах, которые могут содержать любые символы и сочетать все алфавиты сразу. Пользователи могут, к примеру, создавать шаблоны на английском языке с использованием русских букв, и наоборот.

Улучшения также коснулись файловой системы The Bat!. В новой версии нет ограничений на размер каждой из папок с сообщениями, накладываемых The Bat!. Верхний порог для объема сообщений в папке определяется только возможностями файловой системы жесткого диска. Для FAT-дисков максимальный объем одной папки составляет 2Гб, владельцы же NTFS-дисков свободны от всяких ограничений на размер папок сообщений.

В The Bat! 4.1 процесс резервного копирования и восстановления данных стал более надежным, быстрым и удобным. Это стало возможным благодаря изменению формата файла резервной копии. Новый формат значительно повышает надежность резервного копирования. Кроме того, новый алгоритм работы с файлами в несколько раз ускорил процесс копирования и восстановления почтовой информации.

В новой версии можно создавать резервные копии отдельных папок и восстанавливать из архива выбранные папки, сохраняя только важную информацию и не тратя времени на второстепенные письма. В завершение, резервную копию можно зашифровать надежным алгоритмом RC2 и защитить паролем. При этом пользователю нужно помнить, что если пароль будет забыт, восстановить информацию из зашифрованного файла резервной копии будет невозможно. Также обращаем внимание, что старые версии программы не смогут восстановить данные из резервных копий нового формата.

В The Bat! 4.1 была значительно улучшена возможность работы через прокси-сервер, а также реализованы метки времени, которые можно устанавливать в момент формирования электронно-цифровой подписи. Во время работы с S/MIME пользователи получили возможность создавать четыре типа сертификатов: только для подписи, только для шифрования, для подписи и шифрования и для подписи сертификата. Кроме того, новая версия программы может использовать адресную книгу Windows для хранения сертификатов при работе с TLS.

On the threshold of the winter holidays RITLabs announces the launch of the new version of The Bat! software. The Bat! 4.1 has a series of new useful features and improvements of the functions that are already familiar.

The most important enhancement in The Bat! 4.1 is the HTML templates creation option. In the new version creating HTML messages is much easier – in addition to plain text, The Bat! templates can handle the full range of formatting, pictures, background images, tables and other HTML message attributes.

Many business users need to adhere to their corporate style in every message. The new capability makes this extremely easy. The HTML templates allow you to save the graphic elements of your message as a template. All you have to do is write your text in the appropriate place. The same applies to sending accounting and other spreadsheet data. A template with a document headline, a table and a signature is all you need to generate a smart-looking spreadsheet. The table itself can be imported from an external application. These are just a few of the ways that HTML templates can come in handy.

Unicode encoding was first introduced in version 4.0 of The Bat! but was restricted to the messages. With version 4.1, Unicode functionality is extended so that now your templates can contain symbols or any combination of alphabets. For example, users can create templates in English yet include German or Spanish alphabet characters if needed.

The Bat! file system has also been also improved. In the new version there is no limit to the size of the message folder. The threshold for the volume of messages in a folder is determined by the capacities of the hard disk file system. For FAT disks the maximum size of a folder is 2Gb, while NTFS disk users have no restrictions on message folder volume.

RITLabs has made the backup and restore process faster, more reliable, and more convenient. This is made possible by modifications to the backup file format. The new format considerably increases backup reliability. Furthermore, a new file processing algorithm significantly accelerates the backup and restore process.

The Bat! 4.1 allows users to backup or restore selected folders to/from the backup file. This helps ensure you only keep the most important information and do not waste time saving/restoring minor messages. Finally, backup files can be encrypted and password-protected with a safe RC2 algorithm (users are reminded that they will not be able to restore encrypted data without a password nor can they restore data backed up by The Bat! 4.1 with older versions).

In The Bat! 4.1 the proxy server mechanism was essentially improved. Besides, we added time stamp option for digital signatures. When working with the S/MIME protocol, users can create four kinds of certificate: signature only, encryption only, signature and encryption and Certifying Authority (CA) certificates. The Bat! 4.1 uses Windows address book to store TLS certificates.
