Profile: Bain Wolfkind is except being a solo artist also active in the formation Der Blutharsch, but as a solo artist he makes much better music than Der Blutharsch delivers in recent years. On his solo tour Bain Wolfkind sounds like the misfit brother of Nick Cave and also the spirit of Leonard Cohen wanders through his music. The album The Swamp Angel is inspired by the street gang that dominated the dockyards in the New York harbour in the second half of the 19 th century. Bain Wolfkind has gone even more in the direction of singer-songwriter with the material on this second album whilst using sparse instrumentation, consisting of guitar, bass, harmonica, synthesizer, organ and electronic effects to create a gothic western atmosphere that clearly shows the influence of country and blues music. The dark and raw voice combined with the music creates a depressing atmosphere with an alienating effect which makes the fan of neofolk will find this to their liking. The songs of Bain Wolfkind breathe a nostalgic yet fucked-up atmosphere, in which the influence of booze, drugs and a perverse mind have left its traces. The atmosphere you’ll find in the music of Bain Wolfkind can also be found in the work of David Lynch, Johnny Cash, Charles Bukowski, Quentin Tarantino and Jack Kerouac. Bain Wolfkind creates a world in which the outcasts will find a good place to dwell.

Review: The Australian songwriter and DER BLUTHARSCH member returns with an album featuring 15 reverb drenched tales of love, loss, betrayal and revenge. The album is guitar driven and features a Motley Crew of guest musicians spanning a sound from Johhny Thunders style balads and rocking numbers to down tempo, psychedelic torch songs.
