Reviews: A re-issue of the band's now sold-out debut album from 1990, in a 500 copies limited edition, re-mastered and featuring 4 bonus tracks. As with many bands, Jack or Jive's debut is perhaps the darkest in their career - the piano takes a leading role here in many of the songs, along with Chako's vocals, or even on its own, like on the moving instrumental 'We Lost', for the more blissful and soothing side of the album. Pieces like 'The Cosmic Ray', 'The Earth', 'Prayer' or 'Black Mountain' on the other hand, turn towards a darker, more abstract shamanic direction, with a preponderant Ambient tone to things. Somehow, Dead Can Dance's debut springs to mind here and there as well, thanks to some rustic electronic incursions, and it is not at all uncommon to find oneself mesmerized by the combination created by Chako's melodious voice, the monotonous beats and the soft keyboard pads and pianos.
